Madhya Pradesh has 11 different agro-climatic zones. Rich mineral wealth of copper ore, magnesium ore, limestone, diamonds, coal and coal-bed methane. 13% of India's forests are in MP.

Fuel/Mineral Resources

Scarce fuel resources such as coal and coal bed methane are available in plenty. 14% of India's coal reserves are in MP. Asia's thickest coal seam located in the district of Sidhi. MP has the only working diamond mine in India. 144 BCM of coal bed methane reserves available. Various blocks available for captive mining for power, cement, iron and steel units. Large reserves of limestone, the basic construction raw material present; 3625 million tonnes of limestone reserves available. Manganese and dolomite, key ingredients to iron and steel, found in M.P. 400 kms of national highways being 4-laned under the NHDP. 13 strategic stretches of State highways covering 1871 kms being upgraded through BOT. MP Road Development Corporation constituted to spearhead road development in the State. Up gradation of key rail linkages proposed. Inland Container Depots at Pithampur and Malanpur. 5500 kms of fibre­optic network laid.

Greenfield SEZ developed as a globally competitive investment destination at Indore. The State Government has formulated an SEZ policy, the SEZ Act, 2003 to legally support the policy; the Madhya Pradesh Labour Laws Amendment Bill 2003 has been passed by the Vidhan Sabha of MP. Industrial Infrastructure Fund being set up. SEZ Indore Ltd, a special purpose vehicle is being formed to implement the SEZ with assistance from a strategic private partner. Land allotment has commenced with several units starting commercial production.
